- ABOUT
- This painting is of the beautiful blue Velella which are also called By the Wind Sailors or Sea Raft.
- They spend most of their life floating on the surface of the open ocean. They use their clear sails to move with the wind on the ocean. They are not true jellyfish as each tiny raft is a hydroid colony made up of many individual polyps.
- I painted these 3 By the Wind Sailors as I clearly remember mass strandings of them on the beaches on the west coast of Ireland when I was a child. I recently came across them washed up on a Byron beach and all the memories and wonder of my childhood came back to me.
- In this artwork I love seeing these fascinating and beautiful sea creatures on a large scale.
- Painted using natural earth pigment and ochres from the Northern Rivers that I have mixed up myself for a vibrant and naturally chemical free paint. These earth paints naturally have high lightfastness. Paper used is high grade Arches Australian cold pressed cotton 300gsm thick watercolour paper.
- FRAMING
- Sold unframed.
- This is a watercolour on paper it will need framing behind glass to protect from moisture and marks. I would also recommend hanging away from direct sunlight to protect from fading. The attached image shows this work framed with a white cardboard surround and thin frame. This piece would also be accentuated by a wooden frame.
- POSTAGE
- Free worldwide postage throughout my website. All works sent tracked, priority post using Australia Post. This work is on paper and will be loosely rolled in a solid cardboard tube for best protection in transit. When the work arrives I would recommend flattening the paper. Place the work under a stack of books with the protection papers over to keep clean.
